Important Notice!
Dear
friends, loyal broadcasters, educators, explorers, adventurers, fund-raisers,
commentators, reporters and all round great people.Sadly, ipadio will soon be shutting down :(. As a free service that has never wanted to spoil your fun with adverts there is only so long we can keep it going and the time has come for us to say farewell.
We are immensely proud of all the great things you, our community, have done with the technology we created and our lives are richer for sharing in all your stories. So a huge thank you to you all!
We are now closed to new registrations but the broadcasting platform, the apps and the management dashboard will remain up and working until the 2nd April 2019.
So sorry we can't continue to support all your fascinating and inspiring channels.
Thanks Again & Goodbye
The ipadio Team
This is the email I tried to send to iPadio:
I'm really sorry you're closing down
Hi,
I discovered by chance today that
you are closing down and wanted to say how much I have enjoyed using ipadio over
the years and how significant it has been to me as a
teacher.
Sadly, I no longer teach, but I have
continued to use ipadio in my studies of Catalan.
I am keen to download all my own
recordings and even the many recordings made by my students and have made a
small start, but I am worried that the servers may close down before I’ve had
the chance to retrieve all my (and my students`
recordings.
Have you thought about a tool to
enable users to export their recording? I know posterous provided
one.
I will delay telling my ex-students
to download any of their recording they wish to keep until I hear from you in
the hope that I will be able to offer them a solution to make downloading
easier.
I will have to add a comment to all
my pieces about using ipadio, saying that it is closing
down.
Sadly, there is no alternative app
that comes near to ipadio:
60 minute limit per
recording
No limit to total number or length
of recordings
Brilliant integration into blog platforms like Blogger, WordPress, Facebook, etc
I, for one, will be very sad to see
the end of ipadio. It is the end of an era for me.

I got "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" in reply
Downloading recordings
In fact I have been able to download all my own recordings and many of my students' recordings, which I have always thought would make an interesting research project into how students' language developed over one year, or in some cases two.
I have written up instructions for my students about how to do this with three sections:
How to save your ipadio recordings:
-
Part 1 – How to
save the last 60 recordings using iTunes
-
Part 2 – How to
save your earlier recordings using iPadio
-
Part 3 – What
if you can’t remember your password for iPadio
I
used iTunes on my Windows computer and the Channel RSS/iTunes feed for my
ipadio account. http://www.ipadio.com/channels/M35Mde2_6-cCYzsX5N6j7Q/rss
Unfortunately,
this feed only lists the 60 most recent recordings and I have made more than
twice that number in the last three years. So, I had to download the earlier
recordings manually.
Part 1 – How to save the last 60 recordings using iTunes
You will need to install iTunes if you haven’t already
got it on your computer.
I am using version 12.9.4.102
I subscribed to a podcast:
and pasted in the the Channel RSS/iTunes
feed for my ipadio account. http://www.ipadio.com/channels/M35Mde2_6-cCYzsX5N6j7Q/rss
To see the podcast (your
recordings on iPadio) you will have to edit the library
and add Podcasts
Choose Podcasts
Then right-click on the
Podcast:
and clicked on Podcast
Settings
Make sure the box looks like
this:
and click ‘Done’
Click on the first episode
(recording) and then select all (Control + A). Then, choose save episodes.
Then when you look at the
podcast you will see “Saved”, as well as My Episodes and Feed
Now you should have the last
sixty recordings you made on iPadio
Part 2 – How to save your earlier recordings using iPadio
You need to log in to ipadio
and go to page 7 of your broadcasts as the first six pages show the last 60
recordings (10 per page)
To download each recording
manually giving it the same title you need to copy the title and then
right-click on the download icon:
Choose Save Target as, and
paste in the title before the filename, like this:
Making sure it goes into the
same place as your other recordings saved by iTunes. In my case, E:\Users\Chris\My
Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Podcasts\Canal Català de Chris Fry
Now repeat this 100 times!
Part 3 – What if you can’t remember your password for iPadio
If you can’t remember your
password, you won’t be able to change it as iPadio is closing down. There is a
solution as long as you remember your ipadio Channel Homepage (e.g. http://www.ipadio.com/channels/ChrisFry/
). I can tell you what yours is, if you don’t remember.
I used the Chrome internet
browser and an extension called “Bulk Media Downloader”.
Once you have installed the
Chrome extension, you will see the icon on the right.
Go to your Channel Homepage
and click on this icon and mark the options like this:
Then reload your Channel
Homepage:
Go back to the Bulk Media
Downloader and you should see 10 *.mp3 files:
Click on ‘Pause’. You can
un-click any files like the last one, and then download the files one by one.
You will have to move them
from ‘Downloads’ to a folder you create.
Then, click on Clear List,
then Resume:
And go back to your homepage
and click on ‘2’. Bulk Media Downloader will prepare the ten files of that page
for download. (You won’t need to reload the page.)
You will have to repeat this
process for each page of recordings you made. For some people this will be 25
pages!
